Occupational
Therapy
Occupational therapy focuses treatment around purposeful activities that help
children develop specific life-skills while making the most of their abilities. For children
this means developing specific skills for playing and learning - a child's occupations.
Occupational therapy helps patients develop or regain skills through
specific tasks and exercises. Therapy programs address fine motor skills,
visual motor skills, and daily living skills. A specially trained occupational
therapist can also help a child to better respond to and integrate
sensations from the environment, a concept called "sensory integration."
When skill and strength cannot be developed or improved, occupational
therapy is able to offer creative solutions for carrying out daily activities.
